The Fukuoka Rizing will play as guests at a charity mini-bsketball tournament. The mini-basket tournament, which was originally to be played in Saitama, was canceled because of the earthquake, but Fukuoka Prefecture decided to host the tournament to raise spirits and collect donations.
24 elementary school teams from western Japan will play at the Global Arena (Munakata) from March 28th-30th. The Rizing will visit on the 29th. Students will collect donations during the tournament which will be sent to the Red Cross.
Fukuoka’s Trek Store is selling charity T-shirts with all proceeds donated to the Red Cross. The T-shirts say “YOU ARE NOT ALONE” in English. The shirts come in pink, blue, and green and cost ¥2,000.
Nagasaki-based restaurant chain Ringer Hut sent 12 staff to Miyagi to serve earthquake victims their famous champon noodles on Mar. 24. They will continue the operation today in 4 places and expect to serve 12,000 bowls of champon in total.
YS Foods, a Fukuoka-based food company famous for Chikuho Ramen Yamagoya has begun providing aid to Sendai. They are serving 4,200 bowls of ramen and 10,000 of nikuman (steamed meat buns). Their project will continue until Mar. 25.
On Saturday the 26th March between 11.am – 1pm, as part of our regular cooking class for children, we will be collecting food & personal care items for the people affected by the tsunami. The donations gathered will be passed to Second Harvest in Fukuoka.
For each donation, the students will be giving away free pizza & other goodies cooked in a wood fire oven. For those that live around Ohashi and Fustukaichi this may be a great opportunity to make another contribution and enjoy a free brunch. The drop off location is Space-K in Shirakibaru and is just a few minutes walk from the train stations. map

On Mar. 22 ¥340,767 collected by FOSA (Fukuoka Overseas Student Association) & Chinese Students and Scholars Association was handed over to the Fukuoka Prefecture’s relief fund. The collection was made over three days on the streets of Tenjin. Well done!
